Term Overview Personal

TERM 4 ~ YEAR 4

Term 4 is already off to a flying start with a great week of swimming lessons and the school fete last week. A very big thank you to everyone that contributed with an amazing selection of delicious cup cakes, tablecloths, bunting, attendance and helping to run our stall. Your time and effort contributed to a very successful day.

We have a very busy time ahead of us concluding in the last week with a fun excursion to Wiz Bang – more about that soon.

Our gardening efforts have been rewarded with a wonderful crop of broad beans. We've all tasted them raw, steamed and our last variation, roasted in the oven.

Watching the seeds grow in cups in the classroom and then to watching new seeds grow into towering plants in the garden has been exciting, a great learning opportunity and so much fun for the kids.

ENGLISH

This term we will create literary texts by developing storylines, characters and settings; identify characteristic features used in imaginative, informative and persuasive text and read different types of texts.

Students will use comprehension strategies to build literal and inferred meaning to expand content knowledge, integrating and linking ideas and analysing and evaluating texts.

Students will explore the effect of choices when framing an image, placement of elements in the image and the composition of still and moving elements.

The persuasive nature of advertising will be examined and students will experiment with creating their own examples.

Students will participate in reading groups and choose from a selection of activities to demonstrate their understanding.

It’s important for students to continue reading each night for 20 minutes to support fluency and their growing ability to comprehend texts quickly and accurately.

MATHEMATICS

Students will:

  • Solve word problems by using number sentences involving multiplication and division where there is no remainder; use equivalent number sentences involving addition and subtraction to find unknown quantities.
  • Select and trial methods for data collection, including survey questions and recording sheets.
  •  Construct data displays with and without the use of digital technologies; include tables, column graphs and picture graphs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of different displays in illustrating data features.
